Tsungai Magaya

Chief Executive Officer

Tsungai is an internationally respected humanitarian executive and philanthropic strategist with over 19 years' experience mobilising resources at the highest levels for some of the world's most impactful development organisations. As Chief Executive Officer of Project Yananai, she brings a rare combination of front-line programme expertise, proven high-value fundraising acumen, and values-led global leadership that inspires confidence in regulators, donors, and partners alike.

Her career is defined by a consistent ability to translate complex humanitarian operations into compelling investment propositions, securing transformational funding from ultra-high-net-worth individuals, family offices, trusts, foundations, and institutional partners across the UK, Europe, Africa, the USA, and the Gulf.

Tsungai currently serves as Executive Director of International Philanthropy and Strategic Partnerships at Mission Aviation Fellowship International, where she sits on the Executive Leadership Team and partners directly with the CEO and Board to shape global fundraising strategy. Within her first three months, she secured between £250,000 and £1.2 million in new philanthropic income and re-engaged priority ultra-high-net-worth individuals for transformational giving opportunities.

As Director of Strategic Partnerships and Philanthropy at mothers2mothers, she led a global team of 48 income generation experts spanning 17 African countries. She designed and launched flagship philanthropy platforms that delivered exceptional results: the Africa Philanthropy Initiative generating £7 million annually, International Giving Circles raising £17 million annually, Gulf Philanthropy contributing £12 million annually, and Institutional Funding reaching £89 million annually. Her personal fundraising target in year one was £15 million, built from a baseline of £3 million.

As Senior Director of Partnerships and Philanthropy at Global Witness, she personally secured relationships of up to £20 million with ultra-high-net-worth individuals and delivered growth from £987,000 to £58 million across grant-making portfolios. Earlier leadership roles included International Director of Income at All We Can and Head of Strategic Partnerships at Plan International (UNICEF) , where she built partnerships with UNESCO, embassies, and international corporations.

Throughout her career, Tsungai has closed multiple seven-figure principal gifts, built and led global teams across multi-region markets, and designed philanthropy platforms generating over £30 million annually across Gulf, African, and international giving markets. She has also developed legacy giving pools of £23 million annually through global initiatives and will-writing collaborations.

Tsungai holds an MSc. in International Development Studies from London South Bank University, a BSc. (Hons) in Nutrition from Kingston University, and is a Registered Nutritionist with the Association for Nutrition UK. She is an alumna of the Oxford Executive Leadership Programme (2019) and is currently pursuing a Doctor of Social Work at Cardiff University, deepening her expertise in community-led development.

She champions equitable, ethical, and decolonised partnership approaches, ensuring alignment with localisation, safeguarding, and organisational values. Her leadership philosophy centres on empowering local teams and building durable partnerships that respect the dignity and agency of the communities we serve.

At Project Yananai, Tsungai leads at a pivotal moment, positioning the organisation to translate its impact into the sustainable funding partnerships needed to scale our model and deliver enduring change for communities across India, South Africa, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
