Glenda Vergeer
Regional Head of Sustainability - Southern Africa
Glenda is a purpose-driven and results-oriented leader with more than 15 years of experience advancing sustainable development, strategic operations, and community transformation across Africa. As Regional Head of Sustainability for Southern Africa at Project Yananai, Glenda brings a proven record of designing and delivering high-impact programs, building inclusive teams, and driving operational excellence in complex, multi-sector environments.
Glenda’s career spans senior roles in clean energy, customer experience, financial services, and community development. Most recently, as Country Director for UpEnergy Ltd in Zambia and Malawi, she led multi-country teams to deliver innovative clean energy solutions, establish strategic partnerships with governments and donors, and ensure regulatory compliance and effective project execution. Her leadership was instrumental in building empowered, high-performing teams and advancing impactful sustainability initiatives.
Previously, Glenda spearheaded customer experience strategy for ENGIE Energy Access International across nine African markets, championing data-driven service design and leading regional teams to enhance customer satisfaction and loyalty. At Fenix International Zambia, she scaled customer experience operations to 44 locations, implemented robust analytics and reporting frameworks, and mentored a team of over 150 service agents to support national growth targets.
Glenda’s diverse leadership background also includes business process and project management with Vodafone Zambia, and retail and product management roles within leading banks, where she led successful branch expansion, ensured compliance, and delivered training and mentorship to staff.
She is recognized for her strengths in strategic program design and delivery, stakeholder engagement, donor and fundraising support, monitoring and evaluation, and fostering community empowerment. Glenda is passionate about leveraging partnership, innovation, and data-driven approaches to advance sustainable, community-centered solutions.
Glenda holds an MPhil in Engineering for Sustainable Development from the University of Cambridge and a BBA from the University of South Africa. She is PRINCE2 Foundation certified and has completed advanced training in leadership, management development, and monitoring and evaluation for development programs. Glenda is also an experienced board member, having served with SmartNet Zambia and Sunny Money Zambia, and is an active volunteer in sustainability and food security initiatives.
With her deep commitment to inclusive growth and community resilience, Glenda is dedicated to leading Project Yananai’s sustainability agenda and empowering communities across Southern Africa to achieve lasting, positive change.
