Dr Zondwayo Banda
Deputy Country Director – Head of Finance and HR
Dr. Zondwayo Banda is a results-driven Chartered Accountant and Development Finance Expert with over 19 years of progressive experience in donor-funded program finance, public financial management, health systems strengthening, grants administration, and compliance. He has deep expertise in managing multi-million-dollar portfolios for international partners including USAID and the Global Fund to drive sustainable impact and operational excellence.
Dr. Banda holds a PhD and MPhil in Development Finance from Nelson Mandela University, an MBA from the University of Leicester, and is fully qualified as both a CIMA Chartered Management Accountant and an ACCA Chartered Accountant. His technical acumen is complemented by advanced training in public financial management, audit management, monitoring and evaluation, and intentional leadership, gained from global institutions such as the IMF and USAID.
In his most recent role as Financial Analyst at USAID/Zambia, Dr. Banda has provided high-level financial analysis, risk management, and advisory services for complex development projects. He has led risk assessments, pre-award capacity reviews, audit management, and national assessments on public finance management and accountability systems—ensuring the integrity and effectiveness of USAID investments across Zambia. Previously, as Grants Manager and Senior Accountant at the Churches Health Association of Zambia (CHAZ), he oversaw grant compliance, budget management, capacity building, and reporting for one of the country’s largest non-government health providers, benefiting rural and marginalized communities nationwide.
Dr. Banda’s career also spans key finance roles with Africare Zambia, International HIV/AIDS Alliance Zambia, and audit and accountancy firms such as CYMA Chartered Accountants and MJM Associates. Across all roles, he has demonstrated a commitment to transparency, capacity building, and partnership—delivering results through effective resource management, robust internal controls, and strategic planning.
An expert in financial analysis, budgeting, risk management, audit support, and capacity building, Dr. Banda is also highly skilled in the use of leading enterprise resource planning tools (Pastel, SunSystem, Phoenix), Google Suite, and Microsoft Office applications.
At Project Yananai Zambia, Dr. Banda oversees all financial strategy, HR management, compliance, and resource allocation. His leadership ensures that the organization’s mission is powered by strong financial stewardship, operational efficiency, and a culture of accountability—delivering measurable impact for Zambia’s most vulnerable communities.
