Dr. Maketho is a dynamic humanitarian and development specialist with over 15 years’ experience spanning research, policy, advocacy, knowledge and information management, and strategic partnerships. Dr. Maketho is recognized for his ability to drive transformative change through evidence-based programming, high-impact advocacy, and innovative partnership development.

Dr. Maketho holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Development Studies from the University of Pretoria, a Master of Arts in Development Studies from Midlands State University, a Master of Science in Peace and Governance from Bindura University, and additional qualifications in project planning, monitoring, and evaluation, as well as business and sustainability. His academic and professional background equips him with the expertise to lead complex, multi-sectoral programs and deliver sustainable results for vulnerable communities.

Throughout his career, Dr. Maketho has worked with leading international organizations, including the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), Hivos, and the African Union Africa CDC. He has excelled in roles such as Regional Partnerships and Advocacy Consultant and Advocacy, Social Behaviour Change Communication, and Demand Creation Consultant, where he led the design and execution of advocacy agendas, donor engagement, strategic communication, and successful resource mobilization.

Dr. Maketho’s core strengths include designing and conducting formative research, developing social behaviour change communication strategies, and building capacity for knowledge and information management. He is adept at integrating Collaborating, Learning, and Adapting (CLA) practices into project life cycles, ensuring programs are agile, responsive, and impactful. His expertise extends to qualitative and quantitative data analysis, performance reporting, and the development of learning agendas and knowledge products that drive organizational improvement.

Known for his exceptional stakeholder engagement skills, Dr. Maketho has cultivated high-level relationships with governments, UN agencies, NGOs, donors, and the private sector across Southern Africa. He has played a pivotal role in pipeline management, donor intelligence, and the preparation of compelling donor reports, proposals, and advocacy materials. His leadership in both regional and national program development has directly contributed to enhanced organizational visibility, resource mobilization, and cross-cultural collaboration.

Dr. Maketho’s consultancy portfolio includes technical support for the Africa CDC, World Health Organization, FAO, Uniting World Australia, and numerous civil society organizations, demonstrating his versatility and commitment to strengthening systems and building resilient partnerships.
