Nasser Durgauhee

Director of Fundraising

Nasser has more than two decades of business development, fundraising, and strategic leadership experience across the charitable, SME, and corporate sectors. He leads the organisation's global fundraising strategy, working closely with the Chief Advancement Officer and the wider Advancement Division to build sustainable income that fuels Project Yananai's mission across the UK, India, South Africa, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.

Nasser's career has been defined by a consistent ability to grow organisations, build high-value partnerships, and secure transformative funding. As a founder and business consultant, he has worked with small and medium-sized enterprises to scale operations, improve profitability, and prepare for successful exits. His consulting work has delivered measurable results across multiple sectors, including a cloud software business where he grew turnover from £4.8 million to £10.2 million and improved gross profits from 12% to 27%, supporting a successful exit valued at £16 million. He also grew a geographical information software start-up from £1.5 million to £4.5 million turnover with 25% gross profits, and supported a social media marketing company in increasing recurring revenues from £125,000 to £750,000 over three years. In an interim CEO capacity, he grew turnover from £2.3 million to £7.2 million and restructured a company for sale at approximately £15 million.

Nasser's fundraising experience is deeply rooted in the charitable sector. As Events & Fundraising Manager at a UK-based humanitarian charity, he led corporate sponsorship for homeless fundraising initiatives, negotiated national food donations with major UK retailers for distribution across ten homeless food distribution points, and developed patron programmes engaging local businesses. As a Business Ambassador for a children's charity over nine years, he raised more than £120,000 and was recognised for his exceptional ability to connect charities with corporate partners, with the charity noting that "he understands the importance of charities and businesses working together and ensuring that we are able to share our story more widely."

His partnership development experience extends across the music industry, where he closed significant deals with major artists, labels, and environmental organisations to advance sustainable practices and social responsibility. Earlier in his career, he held senior sales and business development roles in the technology and data sectors, growing turnover from start-up to multi-million-pound operations and managing teams of up to 25 staff.

At Project Yananai, Nasser is responsible for leading the global fundraising strategy, building a diversified funding base across institutional grants, foundations, corporate partnerships, major donors, and individual giving. He will personally cultivate and steward high-value donor relationships, develop a robust funding pipeline, and build a growing team of fundraising professionals to support the organisation's ambitious growth plans.

Nasser holds a History degree from the University of Southampton. He is a former professional and semi-professional squash player who represented Surrey and England at age-group international level from 13 to 21. He is fluent in English and French and brings a strong commitment to mentoring and developing others, including his work as a Business Student Mentor at the University of Sussex.
